On Sunday the 13th of November, a storm event severely impacted on the Port of Brisbane. While storm events are reasonably common at this time of year, this particular event saw winds reach in excess of 157km per hour. Widespread property damage occurred, including container stacks being blown over, hail netting and flying debris causing damage to cars, roof damage and damage to vegetation.
During the height of the storm there were a number of vessels moving about the Port and within the Marine Park. Through the various systems we have in place, the extensive training provided to our pilots and with the cooperation of other port stakeholders, no shipping incidents resulted from the storm.
Following the event, actions taken are reviewed so that we can continually improve on our systems and on what we do when confronted by similar events in the future.
The clean up continues and pilotage operations continue unaffected.
