About Us

What is a marine pilot?

Marine Pilots are employed throughout the world to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of large ships in congested, confined and/or environmentally sensitive waters.

Book A Pilot

Brisbane Marine Pilots provides a pilotage service on behalf of the Queensland Government Agency, Maritime Safety Queensland. Our pilots collaborate closely with ships’ crews to ensure safe passage through the waters of Moreton Bay Marine Park and the Port of Brisbane. The effective partnerships we create build rapport, trust and confidence.

To book a pilot, please follow the three steps below. Please ensure that you adhere closely to all specified instructions to enable us to coordinate your pilot booking with seamless precision.

Steps to book a pilot

Step 1: Notify QSHIPS at least 48hrs prior to movement

The vessel arrival details should be recorded in QSHIPS at least 48 hours prior to the movement. (Note: Should the agent be unable to record the movement in QSHIPS, then the VTIS A1 should be completed and faxed or emailed to VTS).

Step 2: Book a Pilot

Booking Timeframes:

  • Alterations to any booked times need to be confirmed with VTS, and notifications of changes should be phoned and emailed as soon as possible to Brisbane Marine Pilots.
  • Ensure that all of the vessel’s details are correct. It is important to pay close attention to the vessel’s LOA and draft to ensure a correctly licenced Pilot is available for the job.
